Orlando Bloom - the Elven Prince

If you ask me which film is the best movie of all time, ten years ago, my answer would be “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, and even today my answer is still the same. To me, there is nothing before it and nothing after it that shall ever match the brilliance of the story. Peter Jackson and his excellent team bring J.R.R. Tolkien’s masterpiece to life, the stunning scenery, the exceptional acting, the outstanding screenplay and the unforgettable music, all and all make the film unsurpassable.

I stopped watching the Academy Awards after “the Return of the King” swept all 11 nominated Oscars that year. It’s like once you have experienced the very best you no longer care for anything less. And because of Orlando Bloom, I discover and fall in love with “the Lord of the Rings” (both the movie and the book). Just one glance of the Elven Prince – Legolas Greenleaf, my heart is forever captivated.

Born on January 13^th, 1977, in Canterbury, Kent, England, Orlando displayed his acting talent at very young age. His mother taught him to enjoy the arts and encouraged him to participate in the local Kent Festival. His dream is to become an actor that is larger-than-life. That dream was almost shattered when he fell three stories and broke his back. His future was in a limbo and he must face the possibility of never walking again. Luckily, the operation went amazingly well. About two weeks later, he walked out of the hospital on crutches. Talking of fate, I can’t imagine anyone else plays the part of Legolas. Peter Jackson has keen eyes for talent. Originally, Orlando was cast as Faramir, a character introduced in “The Two Towers”. Thanks to Peter, he asked him to read for the part of Legolas instead, a much more prominent figure who is featured in all three films. Orlando got the life-defining role two days before graduating from drama school.

After “the Lord of the Rings” he also co-starred in several films, such as Troy, the Pirates of the Caribbean, and Elizabethtown. However, none of them, in my opinion, captured his artistic charm. The storyline and the script have to be superb to bring out the best of an actor. The star power alone cannot turn a weak film into a blockbuster. A great movie is able to stand the test of time, and many years from now, when you watch it again, you still think it’s the best.

Orlando Bloom is a talented actor with great potential. As a matter of fact, one of the main characters in my Fantasy Adventure Novel “The Promise” is inspired by him. When I first created the part, the Evelin called Angoles Moon, an elegant race with an air of mystery revolving its origin I pictured Orlando in my mind: fair, graceful, gifted, with unmatched inner strength and wisdom. Angoles is also the most complicated character in the entire tale, mournful and mysterious. Many lives forever change because of him.
